October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It has been a tradition since 1981 for the first Monday of October to be recognized as the Day of Unity - Night of Remembrance. To honor this tradition, our communities come together to memorialize those lost to domestic violence and to support families, friends, and survivors. This event helps raise awareness of shelter and other resources within our own communities.
This year, on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. The Genieve Shelter will join some of our partner agencies (YWCA, Samaritan House, Transitions, and Navy Family Advocacy Program) and other public officials and community members to host our own Day of Unity - Night of Remembrance. The Candle Light Vigil will be held at the Virginia Beach Town Center Fountain Plaza.
Please join us in raising awareness and speaking out for those victims whose voices were silenced. Take a stand and help us end the violence!
